ITINERARY

SATURDAY MAY 24, DAY 1

Hobart - Rome (via Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur). Depart Hobart 11.10am
SUNDAY MAY 25, DAY 2

Arrive Rome 5.55am. We will spend the day exploring Rome.
MONDAY MAY 26, DAY 3
Half day guided walking tour of Rome. We will visit the ruins of the Forum, the Colosseum and the Pantheon.
TUESDAY MAY 27, DAY 4
Half day tour of the Vatican City beginning in St Peter's Square and visiting St Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums including the Sistine Chapel.
WEDNESDAY MAY 28, DAY 5

Travel by bus to Assisi(of St Francis fame) where we will enjoy a guided walking tour of the city. I hope you have all packed comfortable shoes for all the walking!
THURSDAY MAY 29, DAY 6

Travel to Siena (one of the best preserved medieval towns in Italy) enroute to Prato in Tuscany. Time for a short tour of Siena before continuing on to Prato.
FRIDAY MAY 30, DAY 7
Prato - back to school for all of us with Italian lessons at Monash University Prato Center.
SATURDAY MAY 31, DAY 8
We visit a local high School in the morning and continue with our language lessons in the afternoon.
SUNDAY JUNE 1, DAY 9
A train trip to the beautiful city of Florence - often considered the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. Florence is also famous for its magnificent art and architecture. Then it is back to Prato for us.
MONDAY JUNE 2, DAY 10
A Bank holiday in Italy, but not for us. We are off to Pisa by train to climb the leaning tower and then return to Florence in the afternoon to hit the markets, returning to Prato after dinner.
TUESDAY JUNE 3, Day 11
Say Arrivederci to Prato as we board our bus and head for Venice with a stop in Bologna, a city famous for its extensive porticos (arcades), its University and its food (you have all heard of Bolognese sauce).
WEDNESDAY JUNE 4, Day 12
Walking shoes needed again - our tour takes in the Basilica, doges palace and the Bridge of sighs. We will explore the Rialto, and view the canals and palaces of Venice.
THURSDAY JUNE 5, Day 13
Another day of exploring Venice - maybe a boat trip to see the glass blowing that the city is famous for, and continue on to the island of Burano which is famous for its Lacemaking and the colourful houses of the fishermen.
FRIDAY JUNE 6, DAY 14

Back on the bus again to travel to Gardaland, a theme park on Lake Garda where we will spend the day, and then onto Verona for the night.

SATURDAY JUNE 7, Day 15

We will spend the morning exploring Verona and visiting Juliet's balcony ("But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks? ") and house. After lunch we head back to Rome where we will spend our last night in Italy.
SUNDAY JUNE 8, DAY 16

Now it really is Arrivederci Roma as we head off to the airport for our flight home leaving Rome at 1.45pm

MONDAY JUNE 9, DAY 17

We finally arrive home at Hobart at 10.50pm after our flight which takes us through Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne.
